The Importance of Property Tax

As we start a new year, the library would like to thank each and every resident for their property taxes that help create a stronger library system for the Randolph and Monroe County communities.
91% of the library's budget comes from personal property taxes paid for by the residents of Randolph and Monroe Counties.
Taxes in Randolph County have stayed constant for nearly twenty years and Monroe County even longer.
The money received from property taxes purchases books, magazines, telescopes, computers, wifi, internet access within buildings, provides programming for toddlers through 100 year olds, maintains four library branches across two counties, and pays for twenty five staff members within the library system.
Property taxes provide a reliable, predictable revenue stream, protecting libraries from volatile budget cuts and allowing for long-term planning and investment in resources and technology.
Property taxes are a direct investment in local education, cultural enrichment, and social infrastructure, making libraries vital community hubs. Residents are able to attend hundreds of programs each year ranging from animal encounters to magicians to authors to historical programming.
Our library tax levies are passed by voters, creating a direct link between community support and enhanced local services, ensuring libraries reflect local needs.
Libraries funded by property taxes support local economies (nearby businesses, jobs) and provide critical services like early literacy, job search help, and safe spaces, boosting overall community well-being.
Property taxes fund the infrastructure, staff, and materials that make library services accessible to everyone at no direct cost at the point of use.
As a well-funded library, Little Dixie Regional Libraries improves quality of life, attracts residents, and supports economic development, increasing property values and community appeal.
Property taxes provide a dedicated source that allows for essential services like literacy programs, tech access, job help, and voting sites, fostering lifelong learning and community cohesion. The library appreciates the community support and looks forward to serving our communities with a healthy, strong library system for years to come.
A healthy Monroe County requires great community news.
