Local Quilters Spotlighted at State Fair
Front Row: Jean Bell and Margaret Wilkerson. Back Row unknown, Shirley Ensor and Nancy Crain.
For years there were Extension clubs all over the state. Most have went defunct in
recent years, however Gleason and Country Homemakers still exist in a sort way to this
day in Monroe County. Extension clubs focused a lot on home making skills and
enjoyment of crafting and sewing. Members of both of these Extension clubs still meet
regularly in Paris. One of the things they like to do is create and compete at the Missouri
State Fair in the Home Economics Building.
This year three members of these clubs ‘swept’ the lab quilt division at the Fair.
Margaret Wilkerson won the division, followed Brenda Vaughn and Nancy Crain with
second and third places respectively. There was prize money, but these ladies love the
fun and fellowship their Extension club allows. And the fun of the Missouri State Fair.
