On June 14th you could drive down Main St. of Paris and see the American flags lining the sidewalk to the courthouse as they gently waved in the wind. At around 11a.m you could see the gathering of members of the community as the joined to celebrate with a Flag Day Ceremony. The American Legion Post #221 was present standing in the color guard. The Ceremony was hosted by the daughters of the American Revolution or DAR.

The event began with a welcoming speech given by Mary Beth Mitchell this was followed by a heart felt prayer given by Judge Michael Wilson. The American Legion Post #221 did the presentation of Colors along with the Pledge of Allegiance. You could hear the group singing “My Country, Tis of Thee” from down the road really setting the mood. The readings of “The First Flag”, “Flag Standards”, “I am the flag” were read by members of the DAR. Judge Michael Wilson did the closing remarks followed by leading the crowd in the singing of the national anthem. The Ceremony was concluded with the American Legion Firing of the Weapons. It was impossible to leave the Ceremony without feeling a great deal of patriotism and honor to a citizen of the land of the free because of the brave.
