Joan W. Brown, 90, formerly of Payson, IL, passed away at 11:15 am Friday, December 25, 2020 at Sunset Home in Quincy, IL.

A funeral ceremony will be at 11:00 am Thursday, December 31, 2020, at New London First Christian Church in New London, MO. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will follow at Barkley Cemetery in New London, MO.

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 31, 2020 immediately preceding the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at New London First Christian Church.

Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, including requiring face masks and social distancing.

The family is being served by the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home of Quincy, IL.

Joan was born July 22, 1930, in Emden, MO to Grover and Cleo Pearl Pope Wolfe.

She was married to William "Bill" H. Brown on August 20, 1949 in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter in-law, Cheryl Brown of Payson, IL, a granddaughter, Jennifer Anderson (Jon), and great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jaden, a grandson, Jason Brown (Stephanie), and great-grandchildren, Blaine (Christine) and Carson, a grandson, Jered Brown, a grandson, Jonathan Brown (Jill), and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Elliana, Jonathan, Brielle, and Talliyah, and a granddaughter, Joni Hazelrigg (Charlie), and great-grandchildren, Cayden and Chloe; a daughter, Audrie Bunte (Jerry) of Payson, IL, a grandson, Lucas Bunte (Stephanie), and great-grandchildren, Laina and Jensen, a granddaughter, Allison Jasper (Brandon), and great-grandchildren, Brynn, Teagan, and Lane, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Gavin (Tony), and great-grandchildren, Brooks and Grady; a son, Stephen Brown (Brenda) of Sanibel, FL, a granddaughter, Mallory Antle (Drew), and great-grandchildren, Beckham, Bentley, and Banks, a granddaughter, Melanie Davis (Stephen), and a grandson, Connor Brown; a son, Robert Brown (Jane) of Quincy, IL, and a granddaughter, Melissa Kiel (Josh); a son, Matthew Brown (LuAnn) of Quincy, IL, and grandchildren, Landon Brown and Lauren Brown; a daughter in-law, Paula Brown of Hannibal, MO; a sister, Bob Ruth Gann; and several nieces.

In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Marshall Brown; and seven siblings, Bernice Landiss, Vera Harlow, Ruby Hendren, and John, Warren, Cecil, and Otis Wolfe.

Joan owned and operated the Village Market grocery store in Payson for 20 years, and also helped in the family business, River City Parts Inc.

In her free time, Joan enjoyed going to auctions, where she would find antiques to refurbish. She always had a beautiful home and enjoyed taking the time to remodel it herself. One of Joan's proudest moments was when she and her husband Bill were named Parade Marshalls at the Payson Old Settlers Picnic in 2005. Trips to the Lake of the Ozarks, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, dancing, and Christmastime were a few more of Joan's favorites. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Joan was a member of Plainville United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunset Home for their excellent care of Joan the past five years.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Jennifer Anderson, Jason Brown, Jered Brown, Jonathan Brown, Joni Hazelrigg, Lucas Bunte, Allison Jasper, Elizabeth Gavin, Mallory Antle, Melanie Davis, Connor Brown, Melissa Kiel, Landon Brown, and Lauren Brown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fishes and Loaves Program of Payson, Sunset Home Activities Fund, or Payson-Fall Creek Fire Department.
