| Missouri Shooting Sports wins National Championship!!!
| The Missouri title team
Missouri 4-H members packed their bags, bows, and firearms and traveled to the 4-H Shooting Sports National Invitational and returned with the Tom Davison trophy in recognition of compiling the top results by a state program. Since its inception, the traveling trophy had been awarded only to Texas 4-H. After eight years, that changed at 12:02 a.m. July 2 when Missouri was announced at the top program at the 2010 competition. Missouri took a full complement of teams, 9 teams of 4 youth each plus a volunteer coach for each team. Teams and individuals compete in 3 events within their shooting discipline and are recognized for their performance in each event. Shooters are then recognized for the overall performance in all three events. Missouri teams placed in the top 5 in all nine disciplines. These are: Shotgun, Smallbore Rifle, Smallbore Pistol, Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Muzzleloading, Compound Archery, Recurve Archery and Hunting Skills. The 4-H Shooting Sports National Invitational took place in Kerrville, Texas June 28-July 2. Thirty states were represented by 515 youth at the national competition. Hurricane Alex made for wet and miserable shooting conditions most days, but Missouri 4-H shooters made the most of it and shot well. Shooting Sports is the largest 4-H project in Missouri. It has been one of the fastest growing programs nationally over the last 15 years with more than 150,000 boys and girls learning life skills as well as shooting skills under the guidance of caring adult volunteers. Shooting Sports, all 4-H programs are part of the University of Missouri Extension program. Overall Awards (for 3 events) Recurve Archery - Team – MO 1st Compound Archery - Team – MO 2nd Air Pistol - Team – MO 5th Air Rifle - Team – MO 4th Hunting Skills - Team – MO 2nd Muzzleloading - Team – MO 2nd Smallbore Pistol - Team – MO 3rd Smallbore Rifle - Team – MO 1st Shotgun - Team – MO 2nd

| Sutherland pleads guilty pending pre-sentencing investigation
Charles Sutherland, 51, appeared in 10th Judicial Circuit Court, before Judge Robert Clayton, on Tuesday, July 13, and pleaded guilty to two felony counts of forgery (each a C Felony) for making out false prescriptions on Jan. 22 and Feb. 4, 2009. Sutherland was tentatively sentenced by Judge Clayton to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on each count, to run concurrently. The sentence was suspended and Sutherland was placed on five-year supervised probation by the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole. As part of the sentencing agreement Sutherland is not allowed to practice medicine and have no access to patients or medicines. This sentence is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-sentencing investigation ordered by Judge Clayton. If the pre-sentencing report recommends other than what is currently in place then Judge Clayton has informed Sutherland and his attorney that the guilty plea may be withdrawn and the case continued. “I will order a pre-sentencing investigation that will advise me whether you should go to prison, into treatment or be placed on probation,” said Judge Clayton. “I will not approve the plea agreement without a pre-sentencing assessment.” The maximum punishment for the charges specified amounted to 14 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. During the reading of the sentencing agreement between the parties, Prosecutor Volkert was adamant in noting that Sutherland should not be allowed near patients or drugs in any medical setting. “He violated his authority to prescribe,” said Monroe County Prosecutor Volkert prior to sentencing. Prosecutor Volkert noted that she has agreed to drop the three other felony charges contingent upon a successful pre-sentencing report. Sutherland had been charged with two counts of felony forgery, three counts of felony distribution of a controlled substance in violation of registration requirements and two misdemeanor charges of deceptive business practice in Monroe County. His arrest came after an investigation of Sutherland’s Paris clinic by the Missouri Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. Authorities allege Sutherland illegally wrote numerous prescriptions for controlled substances from Sept. 10, 2008, through July 21, 2009. “I feel that this is an appropriate resolution of this case,” said Prosecutor Volkert. “He is also not allowed to practice medicine in the state.” Prosecutor Volkert also noted that Sutherland has surrendered his license to practice medicine in the state Sutherland had told his lawyer, Travis Noble, that a substance abuse problem led him to commit the felonies and he has pleaded guilty to avoid prison time. “This is a pretty good disposition for all those concerned,” said Noble. “Any who struggle with substance abuse has it effect all parts of life. At this point he has to do the steps necessary to put his life back on track.” Sentencing is set for Tuesday, Sept. 21. In a related case Sutherland was sentenced to a year in county jail on a DWI – prior offender charge stemming from a Dec. 31, 2008 arrest in Monroe County. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on two-year private probation by Associate Circuit Judge Michael Wilson.
